Our dream is to have a HUGE veggie garden and some fruit trees in our backyard where we don't have we don't need to go the store at all. We had contemplated a boxed garden in our backyard, but didn't want to tear up what little good sod we had left after last year's drought. So instead we have containers and a few surprises...

We have two insanely large plants growing out of our compost pile (which is made from fruits, vegetables, and dirt). I don't know that we will eat what these mysteries will become (don't worry mom : ), but it is still pretty awesome you can put stuff in the ground and it grows into food. Last year we had pole beans growing.

Hey Mixed Greens!

Hey Tomatos!

Red cabbage that I am too lazy to put in the ground. Last year, we had some no-see um caterpillars eat through our 5 red cabbages. The sacrifices of an organic garden!

These last two pics are from our strawberry plant!!! They are soooo delicious as long as we can get to them first before the bugs eat holes through them.

We also have a huge oregano bush, rosemary, mint, basil, zinnias, lavendar, marigolds, a hydrangea, and tons of rose bushes. The gardening bug runs in our families. This post is making me hungry - time for an apple, cucumber, celery juice.

Sometimes Dan sprays soapy water on the plants for the bugs. I don't know if that's organic, but you could use a 7th generation soap...?
My grandma used to use baby powder - she sprinkled it around the perimeter of her garden and it supposedly kept critters and bugs away. (And smelled Baby Fresh!)
